SWEDISH EMBROIDERY GUILD´s YEARLY MEETING IN JÖNKÖPING 12-13 OCT

We introduced the banner made by 40 indian women. The day has been celebrated three years and slowly slowly it is spreading to other countries. Now we want the groups in Embroiderers Guild to adapt the idea.

The embroideries are made by 4 groups of women in the village Bhilon Ki Basti,

Rajasthan, India. They have choosen each one subject and made drawings about it. Then made the embroidered pictures in each group.

HUR BÖRJADE DET/ HOW IT ALL STARTED

 It started 25 years ago when I bought my old house, with a no existing garden

 I wanted a beautiful garden to live and paint in - like the artist Monet - and I had only my two hands. I invited people to join a course in free embroidery/ / and asked them to pay with work for a garden.

The young woman made a drawing about happiness--- the embroidery shows what her heppiness is about!

After one weeks course I as happy to be on my own!

In 1993 we started the Swedish Embroiderers Guild in my kitchen. We were 24 persons from all parts of Sweden

                   

 1994 we held our first  exhibition in the small comunity house in my village.

Flags were mald in the course the week before.
